Studi e Ricerche
Since 1994, the museum has published its own scientific journal, Studies and Research, as well as a number of monographs and articles of a naturalistic or archaeological nature.
The Editorial Board annually evaluates the publication of contributions of high scientific value. Unpublished works concerning topics within the field of natural sciences and archaeology are considered for publication, with preference given to those concerning the Veneto region and in particular the Vicenza area; a maximum of 2 articles per Author/Co-Author can be published.
The papers are first evaluated by the Editorial Board of the Journal, which submits them for peer review by external experts: articles that do not respect the relevance of the journal or are manifestly far from the quality standards of the Journal may be directly rejected by the Editorial Board. There is no cost to Authors for publication.

ABSTRACT
Petrified worlds. Paolo Lioy and the popularisation of palaeontology in Italy in the second half of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century
Paolo Lioy (1834-1911), as it is well known, had numerous and multidisciplinary interests during his lifetime, ranging from his involvement in public life to literature and science. For his profound involvement in investigating, researching and popularising heterogeneous fields of natural science, he earned the evocative appellation of “poet of science”. His studies ranged from astronomy to entomology, from palethnology to paleontology and beyond.
His most important contributions in the field of palaeontology can mainly be traced back to 1865, but on several occasions he also devoted himself to popularising and disseminating this discipline. Some particularly significant examples are the essay “Escursione sotterra” (1868) but also the numerous articles that appeared in the pages of generalist and popular culture magazines in the late 19th and early 20th century. These, in particular, described the lost petrified worlds inhabited by life forms of past geological ages, such as those of Bolca with its very rich fossil deposits and other localities in the Veneto region, without neglecting other realities of the Italian peninsula.
This essay intends to quickly examine the popular contributions in the field of palaeontology proposed by Paolo Lioy, also with brief comparisons with contemporary works of a similar nature, in order to reconstruct Lioy’s contribution to palaeontological popularisation.
